9-Fluorenyl acetate is a divalent hydrocarbon and an inhibitor compound. It has been shown to inhibit the production of inflammatory compounds, such as histamine and prostaglandin. 9-Fluorenyl acetate has also been found to be a potent inhibitor of the transfer reactions that are catalyzed by the enzyme lipoxygenase. This inhibition may be due to its ability to act as an electron donor or acceptor, which can affect the chemical reactivity of the hydroxy group in 9-fluorenyl acetate. 9-Fluorenyl acetate has been used in pharmaceutical preparations for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy and other inflammatory diseases.
