N-Methoxy-4-methylbenzamide is an organic compound that contains a methoxy group and a 4-methylbenzamide group. It has the molecular formula CH3OCH2C6H4N(OCH3)2. N-Methoxy-4-methylbenzamide is also called methyl 4-(N,N-dimethylamino)benzoate or N,N'-dimethoxyethyl 4-methylbenzoate. The methoxy group and the 4-methylbenzamide group are both electron donating groups that make this molecule soluble in water. The bond cleavage reaction between the methoxy and the carboxylate functional groups occurs with a reaction time of less than one minute at room temperature, making this molecule insensitive to heat. This makes it useful as an intermediate in chemical reactions that require rapid activation.
