7-Descarbamoyl 17-amino geldanamycin is a synthetic antibiotic and antiparasitic drug that inhibits the synthesis of RNA, DNA, and protein. It has been shown to be active against various microorganisms, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites. 7-Descarbamoyl 17-amino geldanamycin is also used as an antiviral agent for the treatment of HIV/AIDS. This drug binds to the ribosomes in the cytoplasmic membrane of cells and blocks the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the ribosome. The drug prevents protein synthesis by inhibiting tRNA binding to ribosomes and may inhibit viral replication by blocking RNA synthesis.
