Descripción

N-Desmethyl clarithromycin is a metabolite of clarithromycin, an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. N-Desmethyl clarithromycin has been shown to be effective in the treatment of staphylococcus aureus and clopidogrel resistant strains. Clarithromycin inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit and inhibiting protein synthesis. The antibacterial activity of N-desmethyl clarithromycin has been demonstrated with analytical methods such as osmosis and chlorpyrifos tests. It has also been shown that this metabolite is active against S. aureus, including methicillin-resistant strains, which may be due to its inhibition of cell wall synthesis.
