Descripción

Dihydrostreptomycin sesquisulfate is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the synthesis of proteins. It is used to treat bacterial infections, such as urinary tract infections. Dihydrostreptomycin sesquisulfate has been shown to inhibit protease activity in biological samples, such as urine and cell culture. This drug also has a matrix effect on the activity of other antimicrobial agents, which may lead to decreased effectiveness against bacteria. Dihydrostreptomycin sesquisulfate is metabolized by bacterial enzymes into dihydrostreptomycin, which binds to ribosomes and inhibits protein synthesis by blocking the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the ribosome.
