Descarbamylnovobiocin is a medicinal compound that has been shown to have anticancer properties. It works by inhibiting the activity of certain proteins involved in cancer cell growth and division, including kinases. Descarbamylnovobiocin has been found to induce apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in human cancer cells. Additionally, this compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumors in animal models. Descarbamylnovobiocin has also been found to bind to heparin and chitin, two complex molecules found in urine and other biological fluids. This binding may have implications for the development of new inhibitors for various diseases.
