This drug has homologues in a variety of organisms, including bacteria, plants, and mammals, and outperforms its wild-type counterpart in experimental systems. (R)-2-(Benzyloxy)propanoic acid ee has been sequenced and this drug was found to have chiral centers. It has also been shown to be alkaliphilic and able to grow at pH 10.4. (R)-2-(Benzyloxy)propanoic acid ee has not yet been isolated from any organism; however, it was found on the surface of a protein from the cereus species.
