8-Prenylluteone is a prenylated flavonoid that has been isolated from the leaves of erythrina and erythrina vogelii. It is one of the most potent inhibitors of low density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation and has been shown to inhibit the growth of organisms such as Erythrae, Erythrobacter, and Erwinia carotovora. 8-Prenylluteone also inhibits the production of compounds that are involved in inflammation and carcinogenesis caused by reactive oxygen species. This compound may be used to treat atherosclerosis, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, and other inflammatory conditions.
