Daphnilongeranin C is a synthetic compound that has been shown to inhibit platelet aggregation. It is synthesized in the lab and mimics the architecture of daphniphyllum, which has been shown to have antiplatelet activity. Daphnilongeranin C is synthesized by activating the skeleton of a linear precursor molecule with a variety of chemical reactions and then removing the protecting groups using strong acid. The structural features of this compound were determined by X-ray crystallography, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and infrared spectroscopy, and it was found to have an affinity for proteins involved in platelet aggregation. Daphnilongeranin C also inhibits the activation of human neutrophils by binding to intracellular receptors. This compound may be useful for preventing blood clots or treating inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
