It is used in the treatment of cancers such as leukemia and melanoma, as well as diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. 2-(Propane-1-sulfonyl)acetonitrile inhibits the production of proteins by interfering with the activity of protein tyrosine kinases (PTKs). This inhibition prevents the activation of a number of cellular signaling pathways. 2-(Propane-1-sulfonyl)acetonitrile has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumors in animals and to be effective against nervous system cancers and cardiovascular disorders.
