DBCO-C6-acid is a dimensionless compound that has been shown to be cytotoxic to cancer cells. DBCO-C6-acid binds to the proteasome and inhibits the proteolytic activity of this enzyme, which is responsible for the degradation of proteins in cells. This inhibition leads to an accumulation of protein aggregates and cell death. The linker amine group facilitates the conjugation with anticancer drugs and cytotoxins such as antitubulin or cytosine arabinoside. The side chain (residue) is synthesized from a known chemical precursor, DBCO, and C6 acids, which are commercially available compounds.
