This compound is also known to be a prochiral molecule, and thus can exist in two forms, (R)- and (S)-enantiomers. The reaction can be carried out at various pH levels, with optimum activity occurring at pH 6-8. The morphology of the catalytic material is dependent on the type of metal used as a catalyst. The chirality of the substrate affects the stereospecificity of the reaction.
