It has been studied in animal models for the treatment of cancer and as an antiherpetic agent. MOCA binds to the 5-HT7 receptor, which is involved in regulating sleep, appetite, and mood. MOCA can be used as a potential antiinflammatory agent for the treatment of hepatitis and other diseases. MOCA also inhibits protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes and inhibiting rRNA synthesis.
