Descripción

(S)-2-Ethoxy-3-(4-hydroxy-phenyl)-propionic acid is a synthetic, enantioselective, nonselective ester. It has been shown to be an effective drug for the treatment of diabetes. (S)-2-Ethoxy-3-(4-hydroxy-phenyl)-propionic acid is synthesized from an aldehyde and an alcohol in a three step process that involves lithium aluminum hydride reduction followed by base hydrolysis to give the desired product. The chemical synthesis of this compound can be scaled up into large volumes for commercial use.
