Descripción

Oligomycin C 97% is an antibiotic that belongs to the group of spiroketal antibiotics. It is a potent inhibitor of mitochondrial ATPase and blocks the transport of metabolites across the inner mitochondrial membrane, thereby inhibiting energy production. This agent also has been shown to have inhibitory effects on cancer cells. Oligomycin C 97% has been used successfully in patients with leukemia and other malignancies. The antimicrobial activity of this drug is due to its ability to bind c1-4 alkyl groups on microbial cell membranes and interfere with the function of effector proteins. Its mechanism of action is similar to that of other antimicrobial agents such as amphotericin B or nystatin.
