Descripción

Roxithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. It has been shown to be effective against chronic respiratory tract infections caused by gram-positive species, such as chronic cough and chronic bronchitis. Roxithromycin also has anti-inflammatory properties that may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Roxithromycin is a prodrug that is converted in vivo into roxithromycin, its active form. The dextran sulfate-aided analytical method for roxithromycin has been found to be more accurate than other methods used for detecting this drug in human polymorphonuclear leukocytes and saliva samples.
