1-(5-Nitropyridin-2-yl)-4-phenylpiperazine is an arylpiperazine compound that induces apoptosis in prostate cancer cells. It has been shown to act as a selective and potent inhibitor of methionine aminopeptidase (MetAP), which prevents the release of proapoptotic proteins from mitochondria. 1-(5-Nitropyridin-2-yl)-4-phenylpiperazine has been shown to inhibit cell growth in vitro and in vivo, specifically in myeloid leukemia cells and du145 prostate cancer cells. This drug also has anticancer activity against DU145 prostate cancer cells through induction of apoptosis, which is mediated by activation of caspase 3, 8, 9, and 10.
