Tetracycline hydrochloride is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit and blocking protein synthesis. Tetracycline has been shown to be effective against most strains of bacteria, including those resistant to other common antibiotics. Tetracycline is inactivated by enzymes in the liver and kidney, so it is not suitable for long-term use. The optimum concentration of tetracycline hydrochloride is 1.5 mg/mL, which can be achieved by adding 1 mL of a 2% (w/v) solution to 100 mL of water or 5 mL of a 4% (w/v) solution to 500 mL of water. A biocompatible polymer was used in the manufacture of this product, which has been shown to reduce the rate constant for enzymatic inactivation and increase the shelf life of this product.
