Descripción

Thiamphenicol is a drug that belongs to the class of antimicrobial agents. It inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting protein synthesis and DNA replication, which is essential for cell division. Thiamphenicol has been shown to be effective against a wide range of bacteria, including those that are resistant to other antibiotics. Thiamphenicol binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit in the bacterial cell wall and inhibits protein synthesis. The redox potentials of thiamphenicol are reduced when it reacts with ferrous ions in wastewater, making it suitable for use as an antimicrobial agent in wastewater treatment systems. Thiamphenicol has been shown to have no toxic effects on humans or animals at concentrations below 100 mg/L and is not carcinogenic.
