Trimethyltin bromide is a reactive organometallic compound. It is used as a cross-linking agent for the preparation of palladium complexes and as a polymerization initiator for the synthesis of polymers. The reaction mechanism of trimethyltin bromide involves nucleophilic attack on the chloride ligand, followed by displacement of one or more halides from the metal center to form a chelate ring. Trimethyltin bromide has been used in efficient methods for metathesis reactions, such as Suzuki-Miyaura coupling and Buchwald-Hartwig amination.
