Dodecyl isothiocyanate (DOTC) is a divalent hydrocarbon that has been synthesized and characterized. DOTC can be polymerized with the hydroxyl group on the terminal carbon atom. This compound has been shown to be toxic in rats, but not mice. It also has high lipophilicity, which allows it to cross the blood-brain barrier and enter the brain. DOTC is reactive, which makes it a good initiator for polymerization reactions. DOTC is also an organic solvent with potential applications as a paint stripper or degreaser.
