5-Phenyl-5H-benzo[b]phosphindole is an organic molecule that is composed of five phenyl groups and one H-benzo[b]phosphine. The geometric isomers are the same, but have different functional groups. This compound has a metal ion in its structure and can be used to form coordination compounds. It is also known as 1,3-bis(phenylmethylene)benzene or 1,3-BMBP. 5-Phenyl-5H-benzo[b]phosphindole can be synthesized by reacting bromobenzene with phosphorus pentachloride in the presence of a base. It has an NMR spectrum that exhibits three peaks at 8.1 ppm, 8.8 ppm, and 9.6 ppm, which correspond to the three CH2 protons on each phenyl group.
