1,2-Dodecanediol is an organic compound that belongs to the class of polycarboxylic acid. It is a redox potential agent with a dry weight of 126.1g/mol and a molecular formula of C12H24O2. 1,2-Dodecanediol has been shown to have antioxidant properties as it can scavenge free radicals in a film-forming polymer and also inhibit lipid oxidation when used in cosmetic products. This compound is also used as a model system for understanding the effects of fatty acids on carcinoma cell lines and has been shown to inhibit morphological changes in these cells. 1,2-Dodecanediol can be synthesized from glycol ether by reacting with iron oxides at high temperature or from fruit extract by reacting with benzalkonium chloride at low temperature.
