DL-7-azatryptophan monohydrate is a nitrogenous compound that belongs to the group of modulators. It has biological properties, such as being a protein and enzyme activator. The structure of DL-7-azatryptophan monohydrate consists of two 7-amino acid chains with an indole ring attached to the amino terminal chain and an azaspirocycle connected to the carboxy terminal chain. The two chains are linked by an amide bond between the amino groups of L-tryptophan and D,L-2,4-diaminobutyric acid. This nitrogenous compound is used as a fluorescence probe in biological systems or as a model system for studying enzymes.
DL-7-azatryptophan monohydrate is also used as a synthetase substrate in transfer reactions and can be structurally analyzed using NMR spectroscopy or X-ray crystallography.
