It can be used in the preparation of solutions for emission and absorption spectra, as well as in elemental analysis. The fluorescence intensity of 7-hydroxy-3-(pyridin-2-yl)-2H-chromen-2-one was found to be proportional to the concentration of this compound in solution. In addition, this compound has been shown to have an emission spectrum with maxima at 465 nm and 514 nm when dissolved in methanol and uv-vis absorption spectrum with maxima at 335 nm and 360 nm.
