(4-Methylphenylthio)acetone is an organocatalyst that can be used in oxidative reactions. It has been shown to catalyze the reaction of pyridines with β-unsaturated aldehydes to form β-unsaturated aldehydes and ammonium acetate. (4-Methylphenylthio)acetone also has antibacterial properties, which may be due to its ability to react with azides, forming a fluorescent product.
