2-(Phenylamino)benzamide is a cancer drug that inhibits the activity of sirtuins, which are enzymes that regulate cellular metabolism. Sirtuin inhibitors can also be used to treat diabetes and cardiovascular disease, as well as to extend lifespan. 2-(Phenylamino)benzamide inhibits the enzymatic activity of sirtuins by binding to the nucleophilic amino acid residues in the active site and blocking substrate access. The molecular modeling studies on this drug have shown that it binds to the SIRT2-binding site. This drug has been shown to inhibit cell growth and autophagy in cancer cells, but does not have any effect on normal cells.
