9-Hydroxydecanoic acid is a fatty acid that is produced in the body by the oxidation of 9-hydroxy-octadecanoic acid. It is also found in honey, where it can be synthesized by bees from hexadecanoic acid or resorcylic acid. 9-Hydroxydecanoic acid has been shown to have antimicrobial properties and is used clinically to identify and measure levels of lasiodiplodin, an enzyme that is released when bacteria are killed.
