Hexaphenol is a polyhydroxy phenol with a six-carbon backbone. It has been shown to be an inhibitory compound, which is able to bind to the hydroxyl group of the serine residue in a protein. This binding inhibits the activity of the enzyme and prevents the formation of an active complex with other proteins. Hexaphenol also has antioxidant properties, as it contains a reactive hydroxyl group that can react with free radicals. The polymerization initiator is cationic and aromatic hydrocarbons are present in its structure, making hexaphenol suitable for tissue culture applications.
