Diisobutyl Disulfide is a divalent hydrocarbon that is often used as an additive in lubricating oils. It has been shown to be an inhibitor of the corrosion of metals, such as copper and iron, by reaction with oxygen. Diisobutyl Disulfide can also be used as a viscosity improver or to prevent the formation of unwanted compounds in reactions involving organic solvents. This compound is often used in magnetic resonance analysis to protect metal surfaces from oxidation. The molecule of this chemical has been characterized by X-ray crystallography and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
