2-Methyl-1-naphthoic acid is a potent antibacterial agent that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the enzyme DNA gyrase, which is important for maintaining the integrity of bacterial DNA. 2-Methyl-1-naphthoic acid also has inhibitory properties against cancer cells and toxicities in animals. This compound has been shown to bind to monomers and act as a co-monomer in the polymerization process. The sequence of this compound has been determined and it was found to have an evaporation rate of 0.03 seconds, making it suitable for use in coatings or paints. 2-Methyl-1-naphthoic acid is used as an antibacterial agent on food packaging, such as meat and cheese products. It has been shown to have strong antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus strains, including methicillin resistant strains (MRSA).
