Pyrene-d10 is a molecule used for the measurement of reaction yields. It is prepared by reacting carbon disulphide with pyrene in the presence of an acid catalyst. Pyrene-d10 can be detected by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). This compound has been used as a marker to study the effects of deuterium isotope on biochemical research and plant tissue. Pyrene-d10 has been used to estimate the activation energy, or Ea, which is related to the rate at which a chemical reaction proceeds. The Ea is determined by measuring the heat absorbed or released during a reaction.
