Descripción

Tribromophenol is a tribromide derivative of phenol. It is an animal feed additive that is used to protect stored grains from fungi and bacteria. Tribromophenol is also used in the production of dioxane, which is an organic solvent. This compound has been shown to inhibit mycobacterial growth by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby preventing transcription and replication. Tribromophenol also inhibits the growth of food-borne pathogens, such as plutella (a moth) and plutella xylostella (a butterfly), by inhibiting protein synthesis. Tribromophenol has been found to have anticancer activity against human breast cancer cells in vitro.
