Oplopanone is a hydroxylated ester of oplodiol. It has demonstrated antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Oplopanone has been shown to inhibit the production of tyrosinase, an enzyme that produces melanin in skin cells, by binding to the iron atom in the enzyme's active site. This inhibition is caused by its ability to form a chelate with iron. Oplopanone also inhibits fat cell formation by inhibiting enzymes involved in fatty acid metabolism. Oplopanone has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
