Descripción

1-Phenyl-2,3-naphthalenedicarboxylic anhydride is a dicarboxylic acid with the formula (CHCO)O. It can be obtained by radical cyclization of the corresponding lactone, which yields xylene and a carbenes. The phenyl groups of this compound are cinnamyl for the cis isomer and benzoyl for the trans isomer. In addition to these two isomers, there are two more stereoisomers that can form from the elimination of water in acidic conditions: trichloroacetic acid and aluminium hydroxide. The cis and trans forms are catalytic with respect to each other and their reactions yield diastereomers with different substituents on the phenyl group.
