It is used in the synthesis of organolithium reagents. 2,6-Dimethoxybenzene-1-thiol has a number of toxicities including irritation to skin, eyes, and respiratory tract; liver toxicity; and kidney damage. In addition, it can cause skin sensitization. This compound is an intermediate in the synthesis of fluorine chemistry. It reacts with isopropyl alcohol to form the isopropyl ester that can be used as a synthetic reagent in organic chemistry.
