Canakinumab is a human monoclonal antibody that binds to interleukin-1β and inhibits its biological activity, which is involved in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune diseases. Canakinumab has been shown to be effective in the treatment of chronic arthritis, long-term efficacy, and toxicological studies. The compound also reduces the activity index in patients with congestive heart failure or bowel disease. Canakinumab does not inhibit cyclooxygenase enzymes and does not have anti-inflammatory properties.
