Cardanol diene has been shown to inhibit the production of tyrosinase, which is an enzyme needed for the production of melanin, leading to a decrease in skin pigmentation. The inhibition of tyrosinase activity may be due to its ability to inhibit diphenolase activity, or its ability to hydrogenate cyclohexanol.
