4-Bromo-2,3,6-trimethylphenol (4BrTMP) is an oxidant that can react with chlorides. It has a high frequency of use in the chlorination of aryl chlorides. The reaction system includes 4BrTMP, solvent, and potassium chloride as the activated agent. The reaction parameters for this process are pH 7-8 and temperature 150-200 °C. The product yield ranges from 30% to 85%. This chemical reacts with the side chain of aromatic compounds and can produce solvents such as acetone, phenol, or cresols. 4BrTMP is used to produce other chemicals such as acetophenone and quinones.
