Piptocarphin A is a natural compound that can be found in the plant Rotundifolia. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on Leishmania infantum, which is a parasite that can cause visceral leishmaniasis. Piptocarphin A was also shown to have significant anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. The inhibitory effect of this substance on the growth of Leishmania infantum was observed in vivo studies as well as in vitro studies. This natural compound has been found to be stable at high temperatures and resistant to hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid.
