4-Bromo-4-methylbenzophenone is a molecule that has two aldehyde groups in its structure. It reacts with hydrogen peroxide to form a dialdehyde, which can be converted to the corresponding boronate or reductive products. It is used in biological studies for its selectivity for reducing peroxides and oxidation of carbohydrates. 4-Bromo-4-methylbenzophenone has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes, but not Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli.
