• Descripción: Acetazolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that is used to treat glaucoma, epilepsy and altitude sickness. It is also used to treat the symptoms of Ménière's disease. Acetazolamide has been shown to inhibit pentylenetetrazole-induced convulsions in rats and mice, suggesting it would be nontoxic if administered orally to humans. Acetazolamide inhibits carbonic anhydrase, which is present in the human brain at nanomolar concentrations. This inhibition results in decreased production of bicarbonate ions from carbon dioxide and water, leading to a decrease in intracranial pressure.
