Fusarenon X is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the class of macrolides. It is a synthetic antibiotic that is active against bacteria, such as Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus. The sample preparation procedure includes extracting the sample with trifluoroacetic acid in order to remove lipids and other interferences that may interfere with the analysis. Fusarenon X is analyzed using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of DNA was used as a control for this analysis. This antibiotic binds to bacterial ribosomes and inhibits protein synthesis by binding to 16S ribosomal RNA. It also has shown strong antimicrobial activity against hl-60 cells in vitro.
