Vallesamine N-oxide (VNO) is a potent alkaloidal extract from the leaves of Vallesia difformis, an evergreen shrub that grows in China. It has been shown to have a variety of bioactive properties including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer activities. VNO has also been found to be effective against respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The mechanism of action is not yet fully understood but may involve inhibition of glutathione reductase and glucuronidation pathways.
