Fraxamoside is a glycoside derivative that is derived from the natural product taxifolin. It has potent cytotoxicity against cancer cells and other cell lines, as well as inhibiting the growth of cardiovascular cells. Fraxamoside has also been shown to have an inhibitory effect on glycosidic enzymes such as alpha-glucosidase and alpha-mannosidase, which are involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates. The molecular modelling studies showed that there was conformational preference for the open conformation of the enzyme with a good fit for the inhibitor. This suggests that Fraxamoside may be able to bind to alpha-glucosidase and alpha-mannosidase and inhibit their activity.
