Descripción:Paroxetine belongs to a class of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It is used as an antidepressant and anxiolytic agent but also for post-traumatic stress disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Paroxetine inhibits the activity of the enzyme, which is responsible for the re-uptake of serotonin in nerve cells and thus increases its concentration in the synaptic space. Additionally, it inhibits nitric oxide synthase and cytochrome isoenzyme P450 2D6.
