It has been shown to have pharmacological activity in vitro, and was found to be effective in vivo for reducing insulin resistance in adipose tissue. The mechanism of action is not entirely clear, but it may involve the reduction of oxidative stress or the stimulation of mitochondrial function and/or glucose uptake by tissues.
