RPW-24 is a molecule that is used as a model for antimicrobial agents. It is able to inhibit the function of efflux pumps, which are proteins that pump out toxic substances from cells. RPW-24 is also able to inhibit the function of nuclear hormone receptors, which regulate gene expression and cellular responses to external stimuli. The biological function of RPW-24 is not yet known but it has been shown to have effects on mammalian cells in culture and can be used as a model for antimicrobial agents.
