Descripción:(R)-CR8 is an analog of the natural amino acid L-cysteine. In vivo, (R)-CR8 is converted to cysteine, which functions as a precursor for other important biological molecules, such as glutathione, taurine and S-adenosylmethionine. (R)-CR8 has been shown to protect neurons from apoptotic cell death induced by chronic exposure to high levels of glutamate or oxygen deprivation. It also has neuroprotective properties in vivo in an animal model of Parkinson's disease. The pharmacokinetic properties of (R)-CR8 have been studied in vivo and in vitro human cells, and it has been shown to be well tolerated when administered orally at doses up to 1 g/kg body weight.
