3-Fluoro-6-methoxyquinoline (3FMQ) is a drug that has been shown to have antibacterial properties. It inhibits the production of DNA and RNA by binding to topoisomerase, which affects the bacterial cell division process. 3FMQ has been shown to be effective against Staphylococcus aureus strains, but not against methicillin-resistant strains. 3FMQ also affects bacterial metabolism by inhibiting phosphogluconate dehydrogenase and erythromycin biosynthesis.
